Then the doctors observe senior consultants and other phaco trainees operate upon patients there by learning first hand how to hold the instrument, seating posture, adjusting microscope, phaco machine etc.
The candidate will be given many independent phaco cases in two weeks duration. They candidate will be taught on the easy way with different techniques for different nucleus sizes. The candidate can also see the post operative patients to assess the success of their operations.
In the final stage each doctor operates upon patients in supervision of a senior consultant cum trainer who will teach the doctor live on the patient the nuances of phacoemulsification. The survey is preformed with live records to enable review and correction wherever necessary. The trainer is present at all times during the Surgery imposing the necessary skill to the doctor.
Every day the trainee is trained in preoperative assessment and postoperative management of the patients too under the guidance of a senior consultant.
